The Final Post and Win A Kindle Fire

February 26, 2012

As many of you know, we will be launching our new blog at the beginning of March Like all good things, this Customer Service Experience blog must come to an end. Today’s post is the final one that will be published on

It’s been fun here at IntenseFence, but this move has been a lot like moving to a new house — I’m already picking out my favorite room in the new place while the current place is a mess of boxes and trash bags.

Most of all (straining the analogy further), I hope that we will all still be friends when I move to a new neighborhood. And just like moving, I think I’ll bribe everyone with beer and pizzas to come watch the game at my new house. So, in that vein…

We are going to hold an awesome contest to celebrate the launch and to help publicize the move from the current domain.

First, the good stuff. We have three excellent prizes:

The Welcomer Edge is a business book that unlocks the secrets to repeat sales. Its principles are appropriate for all sales and service environments. It’s about four distinct categories of service professionals — the people that will make any customer service function or department a success.

Customer service expert Richard Shapiro provides real life examples and anecdotes to help transform this concept into action. Welcomers are a rare breed of friendly and engaging people. Most importantly, they are innately intuitive, and understand that customers are people first. Identifying and recruiting welcomers is the key to a healthy consumer base.

  1. Dude, all over this and you know I’ll crash the party at your new place as well.

Great story; the wife and I went to Abuello’s, a Mexican restaurant located close by. It was our 29th anniv but we were keeping it low key. We decided to sit on the patio because the weather was nice.

Well, they kind of forgot about us and I had to walk back inside to see if we could get drinks. The wife even made the comment ‘their tip is dwindling’. We were the only ones on the patio at that time.

Well, after I came back out the manager arrived shortly after and couldn’t be more apologetic. He ended up giving us two great appetizers, a tequila liqueur drink to try and our drinks for free. Our total bill was about $8.

He turned a shaky situation into a ‘wow’ event for us and he didn’t even know it was our anniversary dinner. Pretty cool, huh?

    1. Much appreciated Bill! It seems the competition is already heating up!

Thanks for sharing the story! You hit on such a great point about service recovery — that ability to take a bad experience and completely flip it to great is so important. That’s a good manager! But don’t let him fool you, those drinks were on me. Happy anniversary!

  2. It will be sad to see the end of this blog, I only just came aboard! Even so, good luck for the new blog, and I’ll subscribe once it goes live.

    1. Hey Daniel,

I know I will have that twinge of sadness when I “turn off the lights”. I’m glad you’ve joined us here recently, and I promise the new place will be better!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  3. Go, Adam! What an excellent contest. Once I finish digesting all the many ways that I can enter (and WIN), I’m all over it! Great idea and I can’t wait to see it unfold.

      1. I appreciate it Erica! To paraphrase the old political saying — enter early and enter often. 🙂

I know… I was trying to figure out how to do this kind of thing, and when I found RaffleCopter over at Justin Germino’s blog, I was really excited! I’ll let you know what I learn from the process once I make it all the way through. Thanks for stopping by!

      1. This contest was split with 30 other bloggers and hosted on 30 sites, that is why so many entries. I had between 5 and 8,000 entries on my Kindle Fire Giveaway when hosted on my site and only 1-2 others. Make sure you promote it everywhere and on every channel, do a Facebook event invite to your whole network.

        1. Thanks for the clarification Justin — the numbers seem a little less daunting now! Well, just a little… 🙂 Great idea on the FB invite too.

I appreciate all of your insights into this process!

  4. Great customer service is someone who is knowledgeable about the place they work and whole has a good attitude no matter how bad the customer’s attitude may be.

  5. Great customer service to me means using all your resources and putting your customers needs first. Making that customer feel welcomed and appreciated and keep them coming back. For instance my Father and I regularity visit a restaurant once a week for dinner with my three children. There hostess there is very helpful and nice. She knows that we always order tea with lemon and lots of sugar and that my youngest daughter always asks for goldfish crackers. She will seat us at our table and excuse herself momentarily and then come back with our tea, and my daughters goldfish before taking our order. She doesn’t have to do this for us yet she does. She also seems to be quite fond of my youngest daughter even offering her stickers. To me this is an example of great customer service where an employee goes out of her way and takes extraordinary measures.

  6. You are really so generous! Giving away Kindle Fire.. That so really nice! i would really love to join this contest. And best of luck on your new blog site! 🙂
